During this working stage, both inlet and exhaust valves are tightly closed, and so the piston gets charged during the stroke process. This particular movent of the piston results from engine inertia or cranking. This process happens in an intertropical state at both SI and CI engines.
Power and expansion
This process makes a difference with SI and CI engines at spark generating. But with both the engines, the piston travels occur same from TDC to BDC. And as in the initial state, both the valves are still closed.
This is the stage where exhaust values get opened when the piston reaches BDC. The whole process results from the inertia of the piston that forces piston movement from BDC to TDC. After this process, the burnt gasses get exhausted, and new charges enter the cylinder.
